Tottenham are reportedly preparing a 'blockbuster' move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as the January transfer window nears its conclusion.

According to TEAMtalk, the 21-year-old forward has emerged as a key target for Spurs, who are looking to strengthen their attacking options amid a season plagued by injuries.

Delap has been in fine form this campaign, recording eight goals and two assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.

His standout performances have not only caught Tottenham's eye but also that of their London rivals Chelsea, setting the stage for a potential transfer battle.

A former Manchester City academy graduate, Delap made a permanent switch to Ipswich Town last summer for a reported fee of £20 million. Since then, he has flourished, becoming a pivotal figure in Ipswich's attack during their return to the Premier League.

Under contract until 2029, Delap has demonstrated his ability to shine on big occasions. His performance against Chelsea in December, where he scored and assisted in a 2-0 victory, further solidified his reputation as one of the league's brightest young talents.

Delap's career trajectory has been marked by steady progress. Following his time at Manchester City, he honed his skills during loan spells at Stoke City, Preston North End, and Hull City before making his mark at Ipswich. To date, the young forward has accumulated an impressive tally of 68 goals and 20 assists across all competitions and levels.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is said to be an admirer of Delap and views him as a valuable addition to Spurs' depleted attacking lineup.

The North London club has struggled with injuries to key players, including Timo Werner, Dominic Solanke, and Wilson Odobert, leaving them short of firepower up front.

However, with Chelsea also reportedly in the race, Tottenham must act swiftly to secure the young striker's signature.

Tottenham eying late reinforcements

Reports suggest that Tottenham are planning to make two late signings before the January window closes, as the club faces mounting pressure to turn their season around.

Currently sitting 15th in the Premier League, Spurs are navigating a challenging period exacerbated by injuries and inconsistent performances.

While Postecoglou's position as manager remains under scrutiny, the Spurs hierarchy appears to back him for now, recognising the extraordinary circumstances caused by their injury crisis.

The arrival of reinforcements like Delap could be pivotal in helping the team recover and climb the league table.

As the transfer window enters its final days, Tottenham have a big task in hand to identify and secure their targets in time. Whether they can outmaneuver Chelsea in the race for the Ipswich forward remains to be seen.
