Bryan Gil wasn’t a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans at Tottenham Hotspur last season.

The forward was limited to 233 minutes from 12 matches in all competitions. Spurs let him join Girona on a loan deal in the summer window.

This move has paid off as the Tottenham owned player is featuring regularly for the La Liga side. He has a goal from 11 games this season.

The 23-year-old has now been rewarded with a late call up from Spain on Sunday and Estadio Deportivo cover this news.

Barcelona’s Ferran Torres and Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal have been forced to withdraw due to injuries.

Luis de la Fuente has Celta Vigo’s Óscar Mingueza and Tottenham’s Pedro Porro as two right-backs in the squad. Therefore, he has decided to replace the injured duo with Gil and Bryan Zaragoza.

With regards to Gil, Estadio say he’s ‘getting back to his best’ at Girona, after a ‘difficult year’ at Tottenham.

He has played under De la Fuente for Spain’s youth team in the past. The manager has now decided to bet on the Spurs man for the senior team. Gil will return to the national team squad for the first time since October 2021.
