Tottenham Transfer Talk

The transfer market is a totally misunderstood place by football fans who seem to think a player has to join a club if they go in for him.

You hear it from fans all the time, but clubs generally have a clear idea of who is actually transferable and who is untouchable.

There is a battle in world football for promising young talent and that battle will continue with the game having to manage their limited finances better after Covid 19 showed them the folly of their ways, which of course our own Daniel Levt predicted.

Check out recent posts on negative fans trying to destroy Brennan Johnson and most of what Ange Postecoglou goes over fans and journalists heads in a couple of articles that bring in a success mentality.

Tottenham Transfer News

How many years ago was it that I suggested we should be targeting South American players before they come to Europe, make their name and become prohibitively expensive?

Well, at long last, we are doing so, hopefully allowing us to find some gems, perhaps the next Romero at a quarter of the price.

We took a punt on Alejo Véliz, now 21 and on loan with RCD Espanyol de Barcelona in Spain where he has played 371 minutes scoring once.

Even if he isn't a success we aren't going to lose money on him, especially if you take into account amortization (asset depreciation).

Whatever his outcome we should continue to mine a cheap source of players, as they are usually hungry to be a success for their wider families.

Spurs Watch Argentinian Players

Tottenham has shown interest in Kevin Zenón, a talented young midfielder from Boca Juniors. The 23-year-old (24 next July) Argentine has been performing well, with his versatility attracting attention across Europe.

Although there hasn't been official confirmation from Spurs, Zenón remains a player to watch for a potential move.

Newcastle United, whose scouts watched him live in February, Brighton, French Ligue 1 side Lyon and Italian Serie A side Napoli, trained by former Spurs boss Antonio Conte, are closely following Zenón, who has a £13m release clause in his contract.

Also Zenón, who has sparkled in recent performances against Rosario Central and Racing Club is keen to come to the Premier League but will not rush into a decision.

He is very versatile, which Ange Postecoglou likes, capable of playing as a winger, midfielder or left-back.

In 2024 he was involved in 12 goals in 38 games

Also Argentinian, Spurs are continuing to follow the progress of 22-year-old (23 next July) defensive midfielder Ezequiel Fernández who moved to Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia in August.

Staying with Argentinians, Tottenham are continuing to keep an eye on 19-year-old Chelsea signing (on loan back to Boca Juniors) centre-back Aaron Anselmino

Still with Boca Jumiors, Spurs are also following the progress of 22-yea-old (23 next June) Cristian Medina, a right footed central midfielder.

Giovanni Lo Celso

Tottenham received 5 million for the transfer of Giovanni Lo Celso to Real Betis, but he was worth more than that so a complex financial deal had to be worked out where Spurs would benefit in future, if not now.

As part of this transfer agreement, there is a clause that will give Tottenham an extra 1 million for every season Real Betis qualify for the UEFA Champions League, if he plays half of the games.

You all know about the sell-on clause as well with Tottenham receives a portion of the profits the Verdiblancos make from any future sale.

Johnny Cardoso

I have an article written about Cardoso so that will come out soon, but for now you may not be aware that Fiorentina, whose coaching staff are headed by Raffaele Palladino, has shown great interest in him, which has reported by Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Galatasaray offered €18 million plus bonuses, which was obviously turned down, while German Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and fellow Spanish LaLiga sides Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are reported to be among the clubs that are keen on a move for Cardoso, however, Tottenham trumped them.

Real Betis own 80% of Cardoso, they bought him from Internacional de Porto Alegre for 6 million in January and he has an €85 million release clause.

Dani Rodríguez

Barcelona youngster Dani Rodríguez is a promising winger who Ange Postecoglou feels would fit very well with his system.

Only 19, he will be 20 next August his long-term future remains up in the air and Tottenham will continue to monitor him and his situation at the Catalan giants.

Fermín López

Also from the Blaugranas (Barcelona nickname) is 21-year-old (22 next May) Spanish international (2 caps) central midfielder Fermín López.

Both Tottenham and Manchester United enquired about signing him, but Barcelona were not interested in selling and the player himself didn't want to leave Barcelona.

Apparently Spurs made an offer and were willing to negotiate but the Spanish club see him as a central part of their midfield moving forward.
