Loaning players to Sevilla rarely works out, so Tottenham sending Archie Gray there just months after his arrival from Leeds United wouldn’t seem like a great idea.

Loan players can be completely ostracised at Sevilla, but even when given a fair chance, if they succeed beyond expectations, it’s still near certain the Spanish club will ignore any pre-agreed transfer fee and then offer much less.

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the Premier League clubs to have found this out first hand, with Alejo Véliz having a typical Sevilla loan experience in the second half of last season.

Given all of that, Tottenham would obviously think twice about loaning a player to the club again. Especially when that player is called Archie Gray.

Spurs signed the 18-year-old from Leeds United in the summer transfer window, sending around £40m to Daniel Farke’s side.

So far the youngster has had around 300 minutes of action, and that’s got brain cogs moving in Andalusia.

Mucho Deporte report Victor Orta is ‘already asking about’ signing Gray in the January transfer window, on a loan basis. Sevilla are positioning themselves for a possible deal, and have a loan space ready to use.

Orta is largely given the credit by Mucho Deporte for Gray’s rise at Leeds United, but it’s got to be unlikely Tottenham would say yes. They saw what happened to Véliz, and the pause a Sevilla loan put on his development, so would be reluctant to send Gray there.

Maybe Leeds United could be an option if a loan is really needed.
