Tottenham are grappling with a worsening defensive crisis following the injury blow to centre-back Radu Dragusin during their Europa League clash against IF Elfsborg.

The Romanian international has emerged as a key figure in the Spurs backline this season, stepping up in the prolonged absence of first-choice defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. However, Dragusin is now facing a potential long-term spell on the sidelines with what appears to be a serious knee injury.

Having made 28 appearances across all competitions, including 14 Premier League starts, Dragusin's consistency and defensive contributions have been crucial for Ange Postecoglou's side. His untimely setback comes at a particularly critical time, as Tottenham navigate a packed schedule.

Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham trying to sign two defenders before the window shuts

To address this defensive dilemma, Spurs are accelerating their efforts in the transfer market. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham are aiming to sign at least one centre-back before the window closes, with the possibility of bringing in two new defensive options.

Taking to X, he shared the following update:

"Tottenham internally feel that Radu Dragusin's knee injury could be serious, at least one and eventually two centre back will be joining in the final days. Negotiations ongoing for Fikayo Tomori and more options in the shortlist. "

The urgency has heightened following Dragusin's injury, as the club recognises the immediate need for reinforcements. With Romero still out due to a thigh injury and Van de Ven only recently returning from his own fitness issues, Tottenham's defensive resources are stretched thin.

Former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori  is reportedly one of the targets, with reports emerging yesterday that the club have made a 30m euro offer for him, with the deal being in its final stages.

The deal has not been materialised as yet, but Spurs are reportedly pushing to get the deal done.

Manager Ange Postecoglou is likely pushing hard for swift signings to restore balance to his squad and maintain their competitive form. Adding new defenders would not only stabilise the backline but also relieve the pressure on makeshift pairings.

As the clock ticks down on the transfer window, Spurs fans will be eagerly anticipating updates on potential signings. Securing two quality defensive reinforcements would be a significant boost, strengthening Tottenham's prospects in both domestic and European competitions.

If the club succeeds in landing these defensive targets, it could prove pivotal in shoring up their backline and reinforcing their ambitions for the remainder of the season.
