I for one welcome our new South Korean overlord!

The (a?) future of Tottenham Hotspur has arrived in London. 18-year old South Korean winger Yang Min-hyeok has arrived in London ahead of his signing for Tottenham Hotspur in January. It was previously announced that, after a short break at the conclusion of the K-League season, Yang would report to Spurs and begin training with his new teammates.

Yang also gave an interview before stepping on the plane in Seoul where he said he's looking forward to getting to know his new club and new teammates, and will work hard, hoping to make it onto the pitch at least once sometime this spring.

"[I feel] a mixture of excitement and anticipation. Ah, I couldn't sleep well, so I watched the Tottenham match [the 5-0 win over Southampton] for a bit.

"Tottenham has advised me to focus on recovery since I'll be arriving after finishing my league season. They've also provided a training program centered around stretching and recovery. This will be my first time in London, so I'm excited and looking forward to going.

"Initially, I'll be adjusting with the help of my agent, and once I settle in, my parents plan to come over to live with me. My visa hasn't been issued yet, so it might take about a week to sort out those matters.

"My goal is to complete the remainder of the season without injuries, participate in matches, and contribute to the team with goals or assists. I haven't set specific personal goals yet. I feel ready, and I'll work even harder to show my best performance. I hope fans will continue to cheer for me. While I haven't shown much yet, I'll do my best, and I'm excited for this new chapter at Tottenham. I look forward to learning from senior players there and working hard to contribute to the team."

Sonny, meanwhile, spoke about Yang's promise and said that "he's not scared" of the opportunity.

"He's a similar age to Mikey Moore. Everyone loves Mikey and when Yang is here I hope everyone loves him like Mikey. He's been fantastic in his first season in the K-League, scored 12 goals and a lot of assists. He's bright. He's not scared.

"He's a very bright player so I'm excited he's coming here and I'll try to help him as much as I can. But we just have to avoid putting pressure on him. The football side is the most important thing for him [to focus on]."

Yang isn't formally signed until the transfer window opens in January, and I'd personally be surprised if we see him at all, either on the bench or in a match, for a while. He'll need time to adjust, to learn, and to train before we should even reasonably consider him ready to play, and that's okay! It's enough that he's here now, and hopefully he'll live up to his promise.
