The name Cameron Archer might not and cannot yet be mentioned in the same category as Mike Channon, Matt Le Tissier and Terry Payne, but still his first season at St. Mary’s looks one promising, despite a very difficult time in this Saints return season to Premier League.
So far he is what they used to call, an ever present, with 17 out of 17 games played in Premier League this season. He has only scored 2 goals, but they were both cleverly made. Southampton is stuck in the bottom of the table, having a new manager and not really equipped in all positions to be a strong team in this duckpond.
Cameron Archer is one player that has been on a travel during his days in football. He is originally from Walsall, moving to Aston Villa, making his debut in the first team as far back as 2019. Not really being noticed much at Villa Park, given a chance to join other clubs on loan. being at Solihull, Preston and Middlesbrough, scoring a moderate amount of goals in his attacking up front role or as a flank alternative at times.

On 27 August 2023, Archer was confirmed and announced as a Sheffield United signing, on a four-year deal, after reaching an agreement with Aston Villa on an undisclosed transfer fee, which was reported to be £18m. Press reports noted that Aston Villa insisted that the transfer included a buy-back clause.
Following the confirmation of Sheffield United’s relegation in May 2024, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery confirmed that Archer would be re-signing with Villa once the transfer window opened in June 2024. In July 2024, Archer returned to pre-season training with Aston Villa.[26]
On 16 August 2024, Archer joined Premier League side Southampton on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee, reported to be £15 million, plus add-ons. He made his debut for The Saints on 17 August 2024 in a 1–0 away defeat against Newcastle United. On 28 August 2024, Archer scored a brace in a 3–5 away victory against Cardiff City in the EFL Cup.
Everyone new that this return season to Premier League would possibly become a heavy battle to avoid relegation and so far it looks another season with a relegation threat possible. Archer (23) in any looks one positive and could hopefully become a player of interest from other Premier League sides for upcoming seasons as his presence so far looks very promising.
So far 5 goals in all competitions, scoring vs. Leicester and Arsenal in Premier League action, as well as 2 goals vs. Cardiff and one vs. Liverpool in Carabao Cup games. In his most recent game, a 0-0 draw vs. Fulham, he came off the bench at half time. His total so far in Premier League are 9 starts and 8 times coming in from the subs bench, but still one player to watch closely as his progress looks on.
