Darwin Nunez was the hero of the hour for Liverpool as they saw off Brentford and then later saw Arsenal drop points to extend their lead at the top.

Nunez came off the bench to clinically put the game to bed for the Reds and seal a huge three points which could well be the difference come May.

Nunez was praised by Virgil van Dijk for having an impact and if coming off the bench is going to be his role this season, then more contributions will be needed.

However, it does seem to be something Nunez is adept at.

In fact, looking at the stats around Premier League subs, Nunez is actually clear of everyone in one specific category.

Darwin Nunez leads Premier League stats table since signing

In a stat shared by the Premier League’s official website after Liverpool’s win, Nunez is now clear on his own in terms of goal involvements off the bench since he signed, with only Jhon Duran being ahead of him in terms of goals scored.

“Since his first Premier League campaign in 2022-23, only Jhon Durán (8) has scored more goals as a substitute than Liverpool's Darwin Núñez (7), while he has more goal involvements as a substitute than any other player (11)”.”

The Uruguayan has only scored six goals this season but even if he doesn’t get another this season, these two against Brentford could well be title deciders.

The Premier League’s best substitutes

There’s been some brilliant subs over the years in the Premier League and some, like Ole Gunner Solskjaer, very much embraced that title of ‘Super Sub’.

For Liverpool to win a league, they’ll need Nunez to keep this sort of record up and ensure he contributes to a winning team throughout the season.

In terms of goals off the bench, Nunez still has a way to go to put himself among the very best.

There are some other star names on the list as you look down it, with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku featuring.

Nunez, then, can write his name into Liverpool history by joining this list at some point.
