England are moving into a new era under Thomas Tuchel, and the German may want to build the core of his team around a number of Liverpool players.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of England's most talented players, while Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott look like stars of the future.

Curtis Jones made his international bow recently, scoring his first goal for the Three Lions during this international break.

Jones has been in brilliant form lately, and speaking on TalkSPORT, Danny Murphy has been full of praise for the midfielder.

Indeed, Murphy says that over the past few months, Jones has been the best English midfielder in the Premier League.

Curtis Jones has been the best English midfielder in the Premier League

Murphy spoke highly of the Liverpool star, stating that he's been one of the best in his role.

Indeed, Murphy says that Jones has been one of the two best English midfielders in the Premier League.

"I think in the last six weeks or two months Jones has probably been the best English midfielder in the Premier League, one of, definitely one of the best two, so if we were playing a big game tomorrow I would be happy to put him in," Murphy said.

"Both aspects of his midfield play are really good. Running of the ball, credit to Arne Slot for putting him in that role, and the other thing where he's looking like one of the best players is receiving the ball in deep, pressurised situations and then being really brave and productive with it. He has great feet and his confidence is there for all to see."

Curtis Jones compared to other English midfielders

Jones has received all sorts of praise for his performances this season.

However, strangely, his stats don't necessarily back up how brilliant he has been.

Jones does a lot of great work that isn't reflected in the stats, as Murphy says.

Indeed, Jones is brilliant when it comes to running off the ball, occupying defenders and being brave on the ball and playing around the opposition.

Unfortunately, that isn't necessarily reflected in the numbers, and some of England's other midfield options look better on the stats sheet.

Luckily for Jones, football isn't solely played by numbers, and his quality is there for anyone with an expert eye to see.

Indeed, there’s a reason Jones’ Liverpool side are top of the league, while the likes of Mainoo and Wharton are struggling for mid-table teams even if they are looking better from a statistical standpoint.

Jones has been rightly praised for his performances lately, and he could well be a long-term solution in the midfield for England as the Three Lions enter a new era.
