Man United manager Erik ten Hag has been speaking about the current form of his captain Bruno Fernandes who has made an underwhelming start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The Portuguese star has been a major part of any success Man United have had since he arrived from Sporting CP in 2020, scoring 79 goals and assisting a further 70 across the 241 appearances he has made for the Premier League giants.

His influence at Old Trafford grew so much over the years that Ten Hag made the midfielder captain of the club, but his form so far this season has not been up to scratch.

Fernandes has yet to score a goal for United across the eight games played during the early part of the campaign and fans of the Manchester club are worried about his performances.

The Portuguese international had one of his worst games in a United shirt in an unflattering 1-1 draw with Twente on Wednesday and the 30-year-old doesn't look like himself as his decision-making has been very poor across the opening weeks.

However, Ten Hag is not concerned about his captain as the Dutch coach believes that the midfielder can turn his form around.

Erik ten Hag backs Bruno Fernandes to turn around his bad run of form

Speaking ahead of Man United's match with Tottenham at the weekend, Ten Hag has shared his thoughts on the form of Fernandes following his poor showing against Twente mid-week.

"He will come on this point, he will find his form. I am convinced he will not do differently," the Dutch coach said about his captain via Fabrizio Romano. "He is already creating chances but he will make final passes, he will score goals."

When asked if he believes Fernandes can turn his form around, Ten Hag said: "One hundred per cent and it is just a matter of time."

The Man United boss needs the 30-year-old to step up over the coming weeks as if results continue the way they have been at Old Trafford so far this season, Ten Hag could be looking for a new job before Christmas.
