TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes is interested in a move to Manchester United in this window.

Ruben Amorim is keen to reinforce the left side of his squad, and United’s recruitment team have come up with a few targets.

TBR revealed at the start of January that Manchester United have set their sights on Mendes after he rejected a contract extension at the French capital.

Mendes has now made one thing clear to PSG.

Nuno Mendes wants to play under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United

TBR Football's chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Nuno Mendes has indicated to Paris Saint-Germain that he would like the chance to play for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

The Portuguese wing-back has backed away from contract talks with PSG, who are looking to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

PSG supremo Luis Campos wants Mendes to commit to the Parisian giants, but as it stands, he is considering his options. One of those is Manchester United.

The Red Devils have made their interest known to PSG, and the two clubs have a good relationship, stemming from their summer deal for Manuel Ugarte.

Whilst PSG don't want to sell, they recognise that they might have to cash in on Mendes if he does not sign a new deal as he has entered the final 18 months of his contract.

However, as it stands, Manchester United would struggle to finance a permanent deal for Mendes – given he is valued at around £50 million.

Amorim knows Mendes very well. The defender played 47 times under him at Sporting and won three trophies there, including the Portuguese league title.

Manchester United have two other targets along with Mendes

Amorim and the football chiefs at Manchester United recognise that they really don’t have someone in their squad to play on the left side of Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Mendes is a key target, but he is not the only name that United’s recruitment team has highlighted in recent weeks.

Another former Amorim disciple in the shape of Sporting CP's Maxi Araujo is a player they like, along with Leece’s Danish starlet Patrick Dorgu.

United’s scouting team feel that both players would be a good fit under Amorim at Old Trafford.

TBR confirmed earlier this month that Manchester United’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in Dorgu following Destiny Udogie’s injury.
