Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now declared that Arsenal are seriously considering a move for a player who has starred at Euro 2024.

Right now it seems as if Edu and Arsenal's recruitment team have resisted the urge to take part in any PSR firesales.

Sunday's deadline has led to a flurry of deals between Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle United and more.

Perhaps Arsenal will regret not making a move for Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray who is said to be on his way to their rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

But otherwise it did seem as if the profiles they may be interested in from the clubs mentioned, i.e the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, were not the players available.

Instead, Arsenal will stick to their methodical and well-planned approach, hoping to execute deals which have likely been in the pipeline for months.

That being said, Arsenal are now thought to be interested in Italy's Riccardo Calafiori, who has been excellent at Euro 2024.

Arsenal remain interested in Riccardo Calafiori despite Juventus preference

Calafiori must have been a player on Edu's radar prior to a ball being kicked in Germany, a defender who was excellent for Bologna all season.

But it seems the Italian's performances this month can't be ignored by Arsenal staff, who could sign Calafiori should Jakub Kiwior leave.

That being said, Fabrizio Romano has been sharing his update on the situation via the Daily Briefing.

Calafiori, who reportedly isn't interested in signing for Tottenham, seems likely to leave Bologna this summer.

And although Romano confirmed that Juventus are the defender's preferred club to join, he said Arsenal are 'keeping a close eye on the situation'.

Romano says Arsenal haven’t started Calafiori negotiations yet

Romano explained: "Riccardo Calafiori's future could now be one to watch as the Euros are over for the Italian national team after a surprise defeat to Switzerland yesterday.

"In May and the beginning of June, Bologna were hoping for Calafiori to stay at the club, while back in February/March, Calafiori was giving his preference to Juventus, and my understanding is that his preference remains Juventus.

"He would love to play for Juve and also for Thiago Motta, who was his manager at Bologna last season.

"However, as always mentioned, the relationship between Bologna and Juve is complicated – this is because of the Thiago Motta situation."

He continued: "Now that Italy are out of the Euros, Bologna expect Premier League clubs to jump into the race for the defender's signature.

"Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation – it's not a negotiation as of now, but let's see how they will move."

So whilst it seems that Juventus are in the driving seat for any deal, Arsenal are certainly one to watch – perhaps hinging on Kiwior's future as explained.

That being said, a different Arsenal target seriously impressed for his country at Euro 2024 on Saturday.
