Liverpool are top of the Premier League and top of the Champions League at the moment.

However, not everything is sunshine and rainbows at Anfield right now.

Indeed, while performances on the pitch are perhaps the best they have been since the title-winning season of 2019/20, there are some issues bubbling away behind-the-scenes at Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are all out of contract at the end of the season.

Salah spoke about his future at the weekend as he said he's not been offered a new deal. However, it is said that contract talks with Salah's agent are going well.

Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk is much more relaxed about his future.

As for Alexander-Arnold, the right-back is being linked with Real Madrid, and according to Graeme Souness, speaking on the Up Front Podcast, the defender has already decided he will leave.

Graeme Souness says Trent Alexander-Arnold is gone

Souness made a claim about the Liverpool star.

The pundit says that he thinks Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool amid a question from Troy Deeney about his future after Mohamed Salah's comments.

Alexander-Arnold has been called ‘unbelievable’ for his performances this season.

"Can I ask you a question though? Just from, is there any way that Liverpool working towards Trent and to Van Dijk?" Deeney asked.

"I think Trent’s gone," Souness said.

"No, but I’m saying they are still actively working towards that, where Salah’s going, pushing his chest out a little bit, where he says, I have to be done first. Is that an element that could be done?" Deeney said.

How does Trent Alexander-Arnold feel about his Liverpool future?

Of course, this is all pure speculation from Souness' point of view, but it's a fair assumption to make.

Alexander-Arnold is entering the final few months of his contract, and those links to Real Madrid are only growing.

Madrid have now made contact with Liverpool about Alexander-Arnold, and that move could be on the cards.

Dani Carvajal's injury has only increased Madrid's need for a new right-back.

However, in the most recent update from Fabrizio Romano, the journalist claimed Alexander-Arnold is still giving Liverpool priority in talks.

"Trent's priority is Liverpool and he says he wants to win trophies. He keeps mentioning being very happy with Arne Slot and his contract negotiations being silent and not in the media, that was the message from Trent," Romano said.

Anything can still happen from this point, but the closer we get to the end of the season, sadly, the more likely it is that Alexander-Arnold will be leaving Anfield.

Conor Bradley has received a lot of praise for his performances this season, so at least Liverpool seem to have a ready-made replacement if Alexander-Arnold does indeed leave.
