Jarrod Bowen has been in the headlines this week after scoring his first goal for England.
The winger scored a brilliant goal for the Three Lions just seconds after coming off the bench against Ireland, and Bowen has earned plenty of plaudits for his performance.
The West Ham star has established himself as one of the Premier League's better attackers in recent years, and now, he's off the mark on the international scene.
Speaking on the Iron Cast Podcast, Emerson Palmieri has been discussing what it's like to play against Bowen, and he says that the West Ham star is so difficult to face because he simply doesn't stop running.
Emerson Palmieri praises Jarrod Bowen
The full-back says that Bowen is so hard to play against due to his tremendous workrate.
Emerson says that when he played against Bowen, he couldn't believe just how hard he worked.
"Yeah, and I played against Jarrod, I think, was the first time, I think. Oh my God. I say, Oh my God, this guy doesn't stop, he doesn't stop," Emerson said.
"What as in he's quick or just not stop running?" Emerson was asked.
No, he doesn't stop running, he will not stop running. Like I go forward, he always with me. And they always win West Ham, he covers the ball, He goes the other way. It’s not easy to try to find the space. And I think the team and the fans as well. So it was a great atmosphere," Emerson added.
Jarrod Bowen stats this season
Emerson notes just how hard the £18m man works, and that is reflected in his stats this season.
Indeed, Bowen isn't just scoring and assisting at an impressive rate, he's making as many tackles as some defenders.
Jarrod Bowen stats this season | |
Games | 11 |
Goals | 3 |
Assists | 2 |
Tackles per game | 1.5 |
Bowen is averaging 1.5 tackles per game. To put that into some context, only three West Ham players are averaging more.
This shows just how willing Bowen is to cover ground up and down the park. Not only is he in the box scoring goals, but he's tracking back to win the ball for his team.
West Ham haven't had the best of starts this season, and Julen Lopetegui is under pressure already, but Bowen's brilliance this term has somewhat softened the pressure on West Ham and their gaffer.
Micah Richards thinks Bowen will kick on even more after his goal for England, and West Ham will be hoping that results improve from here.
