Gabriel Agbonlahor has named the Euro 2024 star that he would absolutely love to see Aston Villa sign during the summer transfer window.

Aston Villa are going to be one of the sides to really watch this summer, as Unai Emery’s men prepare for Champions League football next season. They have already made a couple of signings, including the deal for Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen.

But it seems that Gabriel Agbonlahor hopes that the Villans may be able to convince one of the stars of the summer to also join the club in the coming weeks.

Nico Williams has been one of the most exciting players at Euro 2024 so far, with the winger helping Spain largely coast out of their group.

Williams went into the tournament having scored eight goals and provided 19 assists for Athletic in all competitions last season. Arsenal are one of the sides interested in Williams.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor included Williams in his team of the tournament so far, and suggested that he would put him right near the top of Villa’s transfer wishlist.

“I think he’s been outstanding. When you want a winger to get at a full-back, Spain have always been the team to be tiki-taka and pass, pass, pass, pass, but now they’re more direct, get it to their wingers, get at players, get to the byline,” he said.

“I remember playing against right-backs because I was quick, and they were like, ‘Gabby, please go inside, please switch, stop going past me’. Defenders hate playing against pace, players that want to run at them, and that’s what he’s been doing this tournament. And I’m sure he’ll be doing it tonight against Georgia.

“£50 million release clause, he’s such a young lad, 21 years of age. Imagine him, he’s one that I’d love my team to go and get, Aston Villa, but any team, he’s an outstanding talent and he’s definitely got a bright future.”

One big issue facing forward’s admirers this summer

There is one big problem facing Villa or any side who hopes to sign Williams over the coming months. Of course, his release clause suggests that there is a potential bargain to be had.

However, Williams is reportedly looking for wages of £300,000-a-week at his next club as he is already on an incredibly lucrative contract with Athletic, who are obviously limited in the players they can sign.

That would immediately make the forward one of the best paid players in the Premier League, and that may perhaps put a number of sides off.

But if he is willing to lower his demands, then perhaps most of the Premier League heavyweights will make a player for his signature, including Villa.
