Luton Town loanee Kal Naismith has said he hasn’t put much thought into his future ahead of the summer.
Luton Town landed the defender on loan from fellow Championship side Bristol City in the January transfer window. He is due to leave LTFC at the end of the season.
Naismith, 33, sees his contract at Ashton Gate expire in late June. He is due to become a free agent as things stand.
He has said, as per Luton Today: “It’s honestly something that I’ve not thought about. When I spoke to the people at the club, just my whole sacrifice for when I signed for the end of the season was to keep the club in the league. If I fall short of that I’d feel gutted, it would break my heart as the club gave so much to me.
“I obviously left and to come back when the club is in a difficult spell, if I could give that to them by helping in any way along with the rest of the players, I’d just be so proud of that. If I achieve that I’ll be as proud of that as anything I’ve done in my career so that’s my main focus for now.”
Luton Town latest regarding Kal Naismith
Luton Town brought in Naismith this past winter to boost their defensive ranks. He provides LTFC with more competition and depth and injects experience into their squad.
Bristol City gave him the green light to leave on a temporary basis to get more game time. The Robins have a big decision to make on what to do with him next.
The Glasgow-born man joined his parent club back in 2022. He has since played 52 matches for them altogether and has scored three goals.
Naismith has played seven games since returning to the Hatters. The Scotsman has also had spells in the past at Rangers, Accrington Stanley, Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic.
Will Luton Town stay up?
The door will open for Luton Town to sign Naismith in a matter of months if Bristol City decide to keep him. However, LTFC’s immediate focus will be on survival.
The Hatters were relegated from the Premier League last year and have found life in the second tier tough. They slipped out of the top flight after finishing in the bottom three with Sheffield United and Burnley.
Rob Edwards was sacked earlier this term. Matt Bloomfield was brought in as his replacement after impressing in League One with Wycombe Wanderers.
The Bedfordshire outfit beat Bristol City 3-1 last time out. They are back in action this weekend against Coventry City at home.
