Evan Ferguson was seen as one of the hottest young properties in football 12 months ago.

The Irishman was banging in the goals for Brighton, including a hat trick against Newcastle, and he was being linked with moves to clubs such as Tottenham and Arsenal.

Indeed, Arsenal were keen on Ferguson for quite some time, as were Tottenham.

However, Ferguson is nearing on a year since his last Premier League goal, while he's rarely even starting for Brighton these days.

Speaking on The Debrief, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Ferguson's current situation, and while Romano says that Ferguson's stock has dropped recently, he's still rated highly within the game and still on the transfer shortlist of many top clubs.

Evan Ferguson is rated highly

Romano shared what he knows about Ferguson.

"Of course (his stock has dropped), when you don't play regularly and don't score regularly, it's not the same feeling we have about a player like Gyokeres who is scoring every week. It's a different feeling," Romano said.

"What I am hearing in the industry is that he's still very much appreciated, he's still highly rated, they know how good his potential is, at Brighton it is difficult because they have so many quality players, they love to rotate, it's a different concept.

"The player is still appreciated in the market, and I still think he's in the list of big clubs around Europe when it comes to a number nine. I can guarantee he's still in the list of several clubs for the next years."

Evan Ferguson is still young

Evan Ferguson may not be in the best of form as of late, but he's still a player with plenty of potential.

Indeed, while Ferguson may not be scoring at the rate he once was, he's still only 19 years old, and he has so much room to grow and improve.

Arsenal may still be in the market for a new striker in the near future, and Ferguson may well be a target they revisit in the future.

Don't be surprised if Ferguson still ends up making it to the very top.
