'I don't know what he's thinking': Chris Sutton slams Manchester Utd man for what he did at Villa Park

Aston Villa v Manchester United was one of the biggest disappointments of the weekend as the game ended in a stalemate.

Neither the Red Devils or Villa could get going and in the end, a 0-0 draw was a fair reflection of what was a pretty abysmal game of football.

For United and manager Erik ten Hag, it will be seen as a good point more than anything.

However, it could have been much worse for United as Marcus Rashford avoided what would have been a third red card in three games for United as a team when he avoided a second yellow.

And according to Chris Sutton, Rashford’s actions showed where he is right now, as Sutton insisted United got away with it.

Chris Sutton unhappy with ‘petulant’ Marcus Rashford v Aston Villa

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Sutton has said that Rashford should have been given a red card and ultimately, it was a stroke of luck for Erik ten Hag.

"Yeah, I mean, it seemed that way. It seemed that he chucked it. Rashford, he got booked for the earlier incident, which was the yellow card,” Sutton said.

“And then it was just petulant as much as anything from Marcus Rashford. I don’t know what he’s thinking. It probably tells you his state of mind at this moment in time.

“But, but Ten Hag got away with one. Well, Rashford got away with one first. But then, of course, things could have been different.

“Had Rashford seen red. And he should have seen red."

Rashford is so up and down

Something is going to have to give eventually at Man United with either Rashford or the manager.

Clearly, there is some sort of disconnect there where Rashford is simply not getting the best from his game and moments like this show his frustration.

On another week, he is given a red card and United are instantly on the back foot and could end up losing.

As Sutton says here, Rashford seems to be in a place that he can’t quite get out of. He seems to have a decent enough game one week before dropping off again.

Come the summer, you get the impression one of Rashford or Ten Hag won’t be around.
