The January transfer window is almost upon us, and Liverpool are scouring opportunities on the market.

Indeed, while the Reds are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League, the right January signing can help them kick on and become champions.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of transfer targets, and, once again, it looks like the midfield is the priority.

Liverpool still admire Martin Zubimendi, while Arne Slot's side have been linked with Aurelien Tchouameni too.

Speaking on the Walk On Podcast, James Pearce has been discussing Liverpool's January transfer plans, and he says that he's been told there's nothing to the Tchouameni links at the moment.

Liverpool aren't in for Aurelien Tchouameni

Pearce shared what he's been told about Liverpool and the Real Madrid star.

The journalist says that while those links have resurfaced, he's been told that there's nothing concrete on this front.

"No, all quiet at the moment. No, no. You know, there’s been a lot of talk about Tchouameni, hasn’t there, at Real Madrid?" Pearce said.

"Talk about them potentially looking to move him on. And I think mainly because obviously we know Liverpool was so keen a couple of years ago when he went from Monaco to Real Madrid, that those links have surfaced.

"But I’ve been told at the minute there’s nothing concrete in that. I think a lot will depend on how Liverpool gets through this period up to January. Because Slot has always talked about wanting two players for every position. And effectively he’s got that."

Tchouameni compared to Martin Zubimendi

Liverpool are said to be interested in both Tchouameni and Zubimendi at the moment, and it's interesting to ponder which player would be the better signing.

Of coruse, Tchouameni is a Champions League winner who has been starring for Real Madrid, while Zubimendi is relatively unproven at that sort of level.

However, Zubimendi is a European champion with Spain, and his stats do match up with Tchouameni's.

Zubimendi is more creative that Tchouameni, while he also makes more tackles per game than the Frenchman.

Of course, the tackling stats may be slightly skewed by the fact Real Madrid are more ball dominant than Real Sociedad, but that lends even more credence to the creativity Zubimendi shows that Tchouameni doesn't.

Both of these players would potentially be excellent signings for Liverpool.
