MK Dons goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray has said he would ‘definitely’ like to stay beyond the summer.

MK Dons have a decision to make regarding the stopper’s long-term future. His contract expires in late June.

MacGillivray, 32, is due to become a free agent in a matter of months as things stand. He has made eight appearances so far this season, six of which have come in League Two.

He has said, as per the MK Citizen: “The season as a whole has been a very odd season for me. I’m ecstatic to be in the team and playing again, but my contract is up at the end of the season. At some point, I’m sure he’ll go around and talk to each of the lads and tell them if he wants them to stay or not.

“If he (Paul Warne) wants me to stay, definitely. I came here to get promoted, and if the gaffer wants me, that’s what I want to do. I want to get this club back up. Even last year, it was pretty bonkers for me, especially towards the back end. Even more watching it from afar. Now the relegation issue is put to bed, we can let the dust settle on the league, hopefully get two more wins and see what the gaffer wants to do next season.”

MK Dons’ Craig MacGillivray stance on future

MK Dons signed MacGillivray back in 2023 to boost their goalkeeping department. He has since played 31 matches for the fourth tier outfit over the last two years.

The Dons loaned him out to Stevenage during his first year. They will now be weighing up what to do next with him.

He is an experienced ‘keeper in the Football League. The Scotsman has played over 250 games in his career to date and will be a useful person to have in the dressing room.

MacGillivray started his career in non-league with spells at Harrogate Railway Athletic, Stalybridge Celtic and Harrogate Town. He has since gone on to play for Walsall, Shrewsbury Town, Portsmouth, Charlton Athletic and Burton Albion.

What now for MK Dons?

Time will tell whether MK Dons end up keeping hold of MacGillivray. If they don’t decide to retain his services, he will become a free agent.

The Dons have turned to former Rotherham United and Derby County boss Paul Warne as their new manager recently. He has been picked as their replacement for Scott Lindsey.

He will be looking to put his own stamp on the squad when the next window opens. His side won 1-0 away at Crewe Alexandra on Easter Monday.

Scott Hogan scored their winner against the Railwaymen. Next up is a home clash against Grimsby Town this weekend.
