'Internally': David Ornstein shares how people inside Arsenal feel about Mikel Arteta now
Today at 01:15 PM
For the first time in a little while, Mikel Arteta is under some pressure at Arsenal.
Arsenal are out of the FA Cup, trailing in the title race and hanging on by a thread in the Carabao Cup.
There has been a little pattering of chat about Mikel Arteta potentially being sacked recently.
Craig Burley warned Arteta that his job could be at risk because of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, while Gary Lineker said it would be harsh if Arteta was sacked at this point.
Arsenal have considered sacking Arteta before, many years ago when Arsenal were struggling in the early 2020s.
However, Arsenal stuck by Arteta then, and according to David Ornstein, speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, they're sticking by him now.
Arsenal still fully backing Mikel Arteta
Ornstein shared what he knows about the Arsenal manager and his job security.
According to Ornstein, Arteta isn't under any sort of internal pressure at the moment, and he's being fully backed by the higher-ups at Arsenal.
"There's no internal pressure other than what he puts on himself to get results. No scrutiny on his job, that was never in doubt. He's just signed a new contract, they're fully behind him and I think they would like to be long into the future," Ornstein said.
"Mikel Arteta was not the Arsenal manager he'd be snapped up in seconds by one of the biggest clubs. Despite some understandable disquiet from outside of the club, internally they fully back him."
Mikel Arteta compared to Arsene Wenger
Arteta isn't under any pressure at Arsenal at the moment, nor should he be.
Arteta has done a stellar job with the Gunners in recent years. He's turned his team from pretenders into contenders in the Premier League, and his record shows it.
In fact, Arteta's record is comparable to the greatest Arsenal manager of all-time, Arsene Wenger.
Mikel Arteta | Arsene Wenger | |
Games | 263 | 1234 |
Wins | 159 | 717 |
Draws | 42 | 265 |
Losses | 52 | 252 |
Win percentage | 60% | 58% |
The results and performances are there for Arteta's side, the only thing that is missing is the trophies.
The reality is that if Arsenal continue playing this well, the silverware will follow, and it would be foolish for any club to consider changing manager at this juncture.
Arteta will likely be at Arsenal for a long time still, and he may well be the manager who ends the Gunners' lengthy title drought, be that this season or further down the line.
