Liverpool remain six points clear at the top of the Premier League table after playing out a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

Arne Slot’s Reds were beaten by the East Midlands side at Anfield earlier this season and history risked repeating itself at the City Ground.

Forest opened the scoring against Liverpool in just the eighth minute when Chris Wood drilled a fine finish across Alisson and into the far corner.

However, Diogo Jota equalised with a header from a corner in the second half, enabling Liverpool to claim a share of the spoils in Nottingham.

Slot has shown great in-game management for Liverpool this season and this was also the case on Tuesday night, with Reds fans praising two “genius” moves he pulled off.

Liverpool fans praise Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas substitution

The two moves in questions were the substitutions he made not long after the hour mark as Jota replaced Ibrahima Konate and Kostas Tsimikas came on for Andrew Robertson.

This proved an inspired double sub, with Tsimikas whipping in a corner for Jota to head home and give Liverpool a share of the spoils in the end.

“When I saw Tsimikas coming on I was happy cause I wanted Robbo off corner duties,” said one fan. “Then I saw Konate coming off and I was questioning that call. But yeah Slot’s a genius.”

Another said: “Konate off for a corner, and we score from it? Slot’s a genius man what do you even say about that.”

The praise kept coming, with one supporter writing: “Arne Slot brings on Kostas Tsimikas & Jota and we score from the corner with both involved. Genius.”

Another added: “Slot leaves one centre-back on the pitch and our two subs link up to score within 10 seconds? Arne Slot, you are a genius.”

Liverpool fans also praised Slot’s in-game management against Fulham back in December.

Slot explains why he made that double substitution

Slot told BBC Sport after the game: “I just wanted to bring more attacking threat to the team and the fact we scored immediately was just a bonus.”

He also explained what changed for Liverpool in the second half compared to the first.

“We were a bit more patient in the second half,” said Slot. “Maybe the intensity was a little bit higher but maybe the other team is a little bit more tired too.”

However, when it came to the result, he claimed that Liverpool should not be all that pleased.

“We should be disappointed, although they are having a great season,” said Slot. “We want to win every game and they probably want to win every game as well.

“With how the game went I think we can be disappointed. They are a counter-attacking team and I think we only conceded one counter-attack and for us to come from behind shows the character and quality the team has.

“We must not get a habit of not getting what we deserved because it happened at Tottenham and it happened today and the analysts might not agree but based on expected goals we deserved more than 2-2 draw against Manchester United too.”
