'Looks sensational' – Journalist names Liverpool player who blew him away v Bologna and the stats prove it

There's an unlikely Liverpool hero for fans of the Merseyside-based club to get behind – and his name is Ryan Gravenberch.

The Dutch international has been nothing short of tremendous for the Anfield giants in the 2024-25 season.

The credit, of course, doesn't belong entirely to the 22-year-old midfielder. Arne Slot must take some flowers for transforming a player who was lost at Bayern and somewhat overlooked under Jurgen Klopp to a 'revelation' made for the No.6 role.

It says a great deal, in fact, that Gravenberch looks completely at home in a position the Reds were scrambling to fill this summer with Martin Zubimendi.

The Spanish international apparently doesn't want to join the Reds or Premier League rivals Manchester City judging by his latest comments. Of course, that won't bother Liverpool one bit if their No.38 can maintain his current form.

Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst understandably couldn't help but praise Ryan Gravenberch on X for another 'sensational' showing in the middle of the park for Liverpool.

The stats once again indicate that the former Ajax star has played a central role in his side's latest clash.

Sofascore has the Dutchman down as a 7/10 thanks to his 89% pass success rate (34/38), two key passes, 2/3 dribbles completed and 3/5 ground duels won against Bologna.

There have, if we're being totally objective, been perhaps one or two sloppy moments that Arne Slot will be keen to have a word about with his holding midfielder.

On the whole, however, Gravenberch is far from being the most problematic player at the club in Wednesday's Champions League tie (or in general).

What a turnaround from the footballer many had lingering doubts over following successive relatively disappointing campaigns.
