Manchester City are accelerating their move to sign Vitor Reis.
TBR Football exclusively revealed that Manchester City opened talks to sign Palmeiras’ Reis, leading the race for his signature ahead of Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea and Brighton as they are willing to fork out the £40 million asking price. Brighton held talks to sign Vitor Reis with the belief that they could get a deal over the line for £25 million.
Palmeiras intend to sell Reis after the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer, informing the Brazilian’s suitors about their stance as several top teams queued up to sign the highly-rated centre-back.
But the 18-year-old could be on his way to the Etihad Stadium, whether it be this month or in the summer, joining another young defender in Abdukodir Khusanov, who Manchester City could sign as they are the frontrunners to secure his services as well.
Man City fans completely agree that Vitor Reis is the real deal
City fans firmly believe that in Vitor Reis, they could be set to make an incredible signing.
One Manchester City supporter stated that their defensive target is a quality young prospect.
“Vitor Reis is a nice young CB (centre-back) that burst onto the scene at the end of the Brazilian season. But could be one for the future.”
Another City fan made the bold claim that that Reis, who Arsenal were set to bid for is one of the best 18-year-old centre-backs the game has ever seen.
“I've seen enough, Vitor Reis is one of the best centre-backs at 18 years old ever. Sign!”
A third Manchester City supporter had the theory that both Khusanov and Reis are players who have been unearthed by Hugo Viana instead of Txiki Begiristain.
“I’m so certain that these two signings of Vitor Reis and Khusanov are from Viana. He is cooking!”
Reis, who Chelsea scouted as well as Arsenal and Liverpool during Palmeiras’ 2-2 draw against Fortaleza in October also received positive feedback from Sky Blues fans who analysed his game.
One Manchester City supporter likened the teenage sensation to Manchester United wonderkid Leny Yoro.
“Vitor Reis reminds me of Leny Yoro a little bit from first observations. Similar mechanical build (linear frame/long wired legs), enabling a large range of action to duel anywhere across a backline. Ticks boxes: box defending, wide defending, aerial duels, carrying/passing.”
Another Manchester City fan feels the youngster has a blend of Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol’s defensive traits, writing: “I see a Ruben and Gvardiol mixture He's aggressive, he intercepts and tackles like Dias and scores headers like Gvardiol.”
Finally, a sixth City fan broke down Reis’ defensive, technical and physical characterstics and went on to state that his potential addition would be a brilliant move.
“Able to play across all three positions in back three, preferably right-centre back or middle centre-back, Technically sound, lanky build ; bit weak but only 18 so it makes sense, calm and composed.”
“Overall, I would be very pleased with this signing, securing a highly-rated youngster which has interest from all the giants of Europe is always good, it’s to be seen if he can settle well wherever he goes. I would like for him to grow a few more inches but at 19, who knows.”
Manchester City consider Vitor Reis as a first-team signing
The Athletic have reported that Manchester City consider Reis as a first-team signing if they manage to complete a deal to sign him from Palmeiras.
Furthermore, Pep Guardiola’s side would like to sign the defensive prodigy as quickly as possible.
But it remains to be seen whether Palmeiras allow to let Reis head to City this January or later this year.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that that the Manchester City target is “keen” to head to the Etihad Stadium.
