Tottenham threw away a two-goal lead at Brighton this weekend to lose 3-2 and Chris Sutton is far from happy with one Spurs star.

Ange Postecoglou watched on with anguish as Spurs completely folded against Brighton to go into the international is a dismal mood.

Brighton’s second half was simply too much for Spurs defensively, as they struggled to handle the likes of Karou Mitoma and Geo Rutter.

Of course, while the Brighton players caused havoc, Tottenham’s defending did little to help and two horrendous errors, first from Destiny Udogie and then Rodrigo Bentancur, helped the Seagulls’ cause.

And speaking on those incidents, Chris Sutton has torn into Bentancur for his role in Danny Welbeck’s goal.

Chris Sutton slams Rodrigo Bentancur

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Sutton slammed Bentancur but suggested that the error from Udogie was simply one of those things.

"Who wants to win a challenge more? And there were certainly two examples. Udogie was guilty of one of them for the second goal. And Bentancur, not closing down the Brighton player or just thinking that he had a position under control. Wasn’t aggressive enough. That’s as simple as that with Bentancur," Sutton said.

"I mean, Udogie, we’ve all been there, Ian. We’ve all panicked in situations. His clearance was wild. Well, it wasn’t even a clearance in the end and it was a decent finish.

"Then the panic set in. But Bentancur, sort of understand the Udogie one. That’s just a horrendous error. He should have just concentrated on his connection. He didn’t. He panicked.

"But Bentancur, I mean, there’s no excuse for a lack of aggression. What was going on there?"

Tottenham have problems again

You do have to wonder if Tottenham will ever get over this problem of both not being able to keep hold of leads and also put consistent runs of results together.

Now in his second season, Ange Postecoglou will get less patience and time from the fans this season.

However, Ange can do little about individual errors really. The one from Udogie opened the door and then Bentancur’s tackle was just poor.

Yet again, Spurs find themselves with problems and issues that the manager might have thought he’d worked through already.
