Liverpool are sitting top of the Premier League table.

It has been a dream start for Arne Slot, who has also progressed Liverpool in the League Cup and won his side's opening Champions League game at AC Milan.

What's impressive about Slot's work is that it has all been done with little fuss, even though he was replacing a legendary figure.

When Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool, it devastated the Anfield faithful and many were worried about what was around the corner.

Fast forward to the present and Liverpool picked up a narrow win at Wolves on Saturday to move to the top of the pile.

There were several top performers on a difficult night for the Reds because, for most parts, they have looked calm and slick under their new coach, yet the Premier League’s bottom-of-the-table team made them work.

One player, in particular, was highlighted by Owen Hargreaves as being 'one of the most underrated' in the Premier League.

Diogo Jota was the one who got that tag and how he is 'such an effective' player for the club after he assisted the opening goal.

With his so-called weaker left foot, Jota whipped in a dangerous ball from the left flank and it was headed home by Ibrahima Konate.

Even though Wolves equalised in the second half, Mohamed Salah resorted his side's lead from the penalty spot and Hargreaves was keen to speak about Jota's brilliance, as he told Premier League Productions (28/09/24 at 7:40 pm).

Diogo Jota dubbed 'underrated' after Liverpool beat Wolves

"It's a great header, but it's an even better ball from Jota," said Hargreaves. "Jota is such an effective player, whether he is finishing. But look at this for a ball. Inviting Konate to score and head it. The ball is absolutely brilliant.

"I think Jota is one of the most underrated players in the league, in terms of finishing. He is a great finisher in front of goal. What a ball this is with his weaker left foot. He stands it up for Konate. The one thing you would say about Liverpool is that they have size on their side."

Liverpool's Premier League title challenge

Before a ball was kicked, not many were backing Liverpool to dethrone Manchester City because Slot had just walked through the door.

But now many are changing their minds about Liverpool because they have looked very, very good under their new manager.

Yes, there is still a long way to go and their squad depth is going to be tested, but this is a much better start than many imagined.

Plus, with Rodri suffering a season-ending injury, you feel a ball has been taken out of Manchester City's court and the title race has been blown wide open.
