Report: Aston Villa make contact to sign player compared to Luis Suarez after hearing about £17m price tag

Aston Villa have now decided to act after hearing about what could potentially be the most attractive market opportunity for some time.

The Villans have already overseen some impressive business this summer, signing Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior from Juventus in exchange for Douglas Luiz, while also receiving some cash as well.

Monchi – Director of Football at Villa Park – has also signed Ross Barkley, Ian Maatsen and Lewis Dobbin, in what has been a busy summer.

Now, contact has been made to bring another Juventus player to Aston Villa

Aston Villa make contact to sign Federico Chiesa

A story from Corriere dello Sport now claims that Aston Villa have made contact to sign Juventus No.7 Federico Chiesa.

The Italy international used to be one of the hottest properties in Europe, with Juventus spending £54m to sign him from Fiorentina back in October 2020.

However, Chiesa sadly suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2022 which ruled him out for roughly an entire year.

Now, as the Italian enters the final 12 months of his contract with no intention of signing a new deal, Juventus have informed the rest of Europe that he is available for just €20m (£17m).

Aston Villa are one of two sides who have been in touch with Juventus after hearing this, with Corriere dello Sport adding that Roma are also keen on signing Chiesa.

The man from Genova scored ten goals and provided three assists in 37 appearances last season, as Juventus used him in four different positions across the attack.

Monchi should bid

In our view, Aston Villa should stump up the asking price immediately.

Chiesa – who is still only 26 – managed to avoid any serious setbacks last season, suggesting that he is well and truly over his injury problems, and for just £17m, Unai Emery could get his hands on a player who was only backed to become the “best player in Europe” by Cesare Prandelli in 2020.

The former Italy manager told La Nazione: “Chiesa must specialise in what he feels is his natural tactical position. If he does this, he will become the best player in Europe.”

Furthermore, the Juventus No.7 is a tenacious figure, with his hunger to succeed even leading Joe Cole to compare him to Luis Suarez, saying: “The biggest attribute he's got is he plays with a humility. He's hustling and bustling like a young Luis Suarez. He can make something out of nothing.”

Chiesa’s best position appears to be as a left winger cutting inside on his stronger right foot, an area Emery arguably has a vacancy for, with Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby doing likewise on the other flank.

Therefore, Villa Park could well be the place for the Italian to get back on track after a few tough years in Turin.
