Manchester City have been very busy in the market this winter – following an abysmal end to 2024.

Pep Guardiola oversaw a bizarre streak of just two wins in 14 games across all competitions to end 2024 on a sour note – a run which leaves Manchester City 12 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Citizens have responded to that woeful run by splashing the cash – spending £33.8m to sign Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens and a further £29.6m on Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.

TBR Football understand Manchester City are ready to offload John Stones – and with Kyle Walker departing for AC Milan, you can see why Txiki Begiristain has focused on improving the defence.

Now – however – a central midfielder wants to join Manchester City in Matias Siltanen.

A story from Fotbollskanalen in Sweden now states that the 17-year-old is hoping to join Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

The Swedish news outlet believe the Finland U19 international is keen on a move to Manchester City – but will move to Djurgarden if the reigning Premier League champions do not come forward with an offer.

Matias Siltanen has been compared to Toni Kroos

If Manchester City do opt to make a bid for the teenager, Guardiola could have the new Toni Kroos on his hands.

It was Transfermarkt who compared Siltanen to the German playmaker – who retired after UEFA Euro 2024 last summer – with the Finnish maestro himself adding: “I am one of those No.6s who want to have the ball, play deep passes, but I also like to win one-v-one situations and intercept passes.”

TBR Football understand Manchester City have asked about signing Douglas Luiz from Juventus as Guardiola eyes central midfield reinforcements – with Rodri still sidelined and Mateo Kovacic struggling with occasional injuries.

Therefore, it would not seem as if Siltanen is on the wishlist at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Manchester City have already moved to sign Claudio Echeverri for the future – loaning the Argentine back to River Plate – so a similar deal involving Siltanen cannot be ruled out.
