A new era has arrived at Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim taking the Red Devils reins on a permanent basis following Erik ten Hag's sacking.

Ruud van Nistelrooy steadied the Old Trafford ship as caretaker manager and fans will be hopeful that Amorim will now help his new side kick on.

With the January transfer window now on the horizon, Manchester United fans will be eager to see what Amorim does in terms of new signings.

The Red Devils have set their sights on a “Roy Keane-esque” midfielder and, according to a new report, he would be keen on a future move to Old Trafford.

Chris Rigg would be open to future Manchester United move

The player in question is Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg, one of the brightest young talents outside the Premier League.

TBR Football were told in September that Man United are determined to sign Rigg, who is also on the radar of Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United.

Now, GiveMeSport have reported that Rigg would be interested in eventually heading to Old Trafford due to their profile and ambition in the coming seasons.

However, he apparently has a similar stance when it comes to Sunderland’s arch-rivals Newcastle, who are also mulling over a possible move.

Although Rigg is expected to wait until the summer before leaving Sunderland, GMS sources say it is only a matter of time before he’s in the Premier League.

Rigg will reportedly hold out for a club which matches his ambition when the time comes to leave the Stadium of Light, and Man United are one of the clubs that seem to fit the bill.

Who is Chris Rigg?

Rigg is a 17-year-old midfielder who plies his trade for Championship side Sunderland and represents England at Under-17 level.

He has already made 40 competitive appearances for the Black Cats, registering six goals. This season, he has 15 outings and three Championship goals under his belt.

TBR Football sources were told in September that those in the Man United recruitment ranks think Rigg has the potential to become as good as Jude Bellingham.

Meanwhile, Fotmob have quoted Tony Mowbray as saying Rigg possesses a "Roy Keane-esque type of nastiness" that makes him extremely effective out of possession.
