Manchester United have made a decision over their move for Jarrad Branthwaite after learning Everton’s price tag and the player’s wages.

Ruben Amorim is looking to add one more central defender to his back line and the Everton player was one they had been looking at.

The 22-year-old missed a large chunk of the season due to the injury but he is now back in the team and set to play a key role under new boss David Moyes.

The Red Devils would need to make a big push to land Branthwaite and their stance over a move has just been revealed.

Manchester United abandon Jarrad Branthwaite move

Manchester United have decided to abandon their move for Jarrad Branthwaite following the renewal of Harry Maguire’s contract, according to the Daily Mail.

Amorim had the decision to renew the England international’s contract until 2026 and his form under the new boss has been very impressive.

The Red Devils are now looking to sign a younger defender rather than paying big money to land a ready-made like Branthwaite.

The Everton defender would have cost around £70 million and he is wages would be around £160k-per-week.

The Premier League club will instead use those funds elsewhere in the team to fix the more glaring holes like potentially a new striker.

Do Manchester United need another central defender?

Manchester United now have a strong pool of central defenders and Amorim will need to determine whether he has enough for his back-three system.,

Currently, United have Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire, whilst Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw are also options.

Amorim has been favouring Martinez, De Ligt, and Maguire as his choices for his defence with Yoro often being introduced later in the game.

So for now, there are bigger issues in the team that need addressing before United look to bring in another central defender.
