One of Tottenham Hotspur’s key performers against Liverpool proved Ange Postecoglou has been making a big mistake in North London for quite some time.

Tottenham will head to Anfield in February with a 1-0 advantage after Lucas Bergvall netted his first goal for the club in the first leg.

Despite their squad being decimated by injuries, Ange Postecoglou’s team produced a spirited display against the Premier League leaders.

But some of Spurs’ players have benefitted from the injuries having been brought into the team and one of their stars shone particularly bright in North London.

Djed Spence has proved Ange Postecoglou wrong at Tottenham

The recent performances of Djed Spence will leave Tottenham supporters scratching their heads as to why it has taken so long for the defender to be given his chance.

Playing out of position and up against Mohamed Salah, the 24-year-old produced yet another assured performance in a Spurs shirt.

The defender has already played 11 times for Tottenham this term which is quite something considering he’d only appeared on six occasions prior to this campaign.

The £20 million signing has been sent out on three different loan spells and after nearly being sold in the summer, he is showing his treatment in North London has been wholly unjust.

Speaking after the 1-0 win over Liverpool, Postecoglou told the media: “Djed’s playing left-back, unbelievably well.”

How Djed Spence managed to silence Mohamed Salah

In perhaps the toughest test of his career so far, Spence managed to keep Salah quiet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Egyptian forward caused the Lilywhites many issues when he was last in the capital, however, he failed to register a single shot on target this time around.

Spence was also heavily involved with the ball as he managed 78 touches against the Reds, more than any other Tottenham player.

The former Nottingham Forest man also managed six clearances, one interception, two tackles and won seven of his 10 ground duels.
