On Sunday evening we reported that former Aston Villa and Walsall striker Gary Shaw had passed away, we recognise that this is untrue and wish to apologise for any distress caused.
Our original post was created following an item first published on the official Walsall Football Club X account.
While we endeavour to clarify and confirm all information we receive, we failed to do so on this occasion and deeply regret any upset this may have caused.
We wish Gary and his family well as he continues to recover from a recent fall.
