Hornets legend Ross Jenkins has spoken of his emotional visit back to The Vic to celebrate the Graham Taylor Matchday.

The forward scored 142 goals from 398 Watford appearances, and was in attendance for the game against Sheffield United last weekend as the club paid tribute to our greatest ever manager.

Jenkins was an integral part of Taylor’s squad as the Golden Boys remarkably rose from Division Four to runners-up in the top flight, within six seasons between 1977 and 1983.

He met up with current Hornets Head Coach Tom Cleverley during his return to the club, made alongside a host of other players from Taylor’s most successful era.

“You have your moment in time and things come to an end, and unfortunately you have to leave,” Jenkins told the Watford Observer.

“But then when you come back, it is difficult to mentally deal with the reaction of true supporters.

“I always enjoy coming back. It deals with those little question marks that buzz around in your head, because you know you used to do it on the pitch.

“Everyone is so nice. People coming up and thanking you. It’s lovely.”

Jenkins now lives in Spain and was given a warm reception from Hornets supporters on his return.

“Because I live away and I’ve had probably four different lives since I left football, and I’ve lived in different places and had different experiences, coming back here just kind of gets to you a bit,” he added.

“You get that lump in the throat and the emotions.”
