Jeremy Ngakia experienced a bittersweet afternoon as he scored his first goal in senior football in the 2-1 defeat against Sheffield United.

The defender poked home from close range to bring the Hornets back level after Gustavo Hamer’s opening strike, but Andre Brooks won the game in the second-half.

“I’m happy with the goal but overall I’m disappointed,” said Ngakia, who netted on his 83rd Watford appearance.

“I’m a bit angry, to be honest.

“It’s not a nice feeling to lose, especially in a game where we’ve put in so much effort.

“To be honest, I thought we limited their chances.

“We had the better chances I thought, in my opinion, and we should have put some away. Unfortunately, we didn’t.

“I don’t go into games thinking about scoring goals, I just go into it trying to do my best to put a performance in for the team.”

The Hornets have now lost three Sky Bet Championship games in a row and won’t be back in league action for 10 days - next travelling to Cardiff City (Tuesday January 14, 7.45pm KO).

It means there is time for reflection after the busy Christmas period, despite the Emirates FA Cup trip to Fulham on Thursday (January 9, 7.45pm KO).

“One thing that has improved massively at the club this season is the squad being together and wanting to win,” Ngakia added.

“We’ll definitely reassess what has gone wrong and what has gone right, where we need to improve and what we need to capitalise on.”
