Skechers Goal Of The Month: Chakvetadze Free-Kick Wins August Prize

Giorgi Chakvetadze has won the Hornets' August Goal of the Month competition for his free-kick in the opening-day win over Millwall.

The Georgian international scored just after half-time to put Watford 2-0 up at The Den, with the game ending 3-2 in the Golden Boys’ favour. 

Chakvetadze won the free-kick 30 yards from goal before stepping up and sending the dead ball into the top-left corner with pinpoint accuracy. 

The 25-year-old received more than 45 per cent of the vote, held on the official Watford FC app, to win the first award of the season. 

Vakoun Bayo’s acrobatic scissor-kick against Derby County finished a close second with 41 per cent, while Edo Kayembe’s effort straight from a corner against Millwall ended third. 

Kayembe’s second strike against Stoke City was also nominated, alongside Kwadwo Baah’s first goal for the club against MK Dons. 

Goal of the Month votes throughout the season will exclusively be held on the official Watford FC app.
