Long-time Hornets supporter Gary Boakes has won an exclusive Watford FC travel bundle after winning the November prize draw run in association with club partner Lowr, the fan sustainability platform.

The bundle includes a backpack, travel pillow and water bottle, with Gary scooping the prize after logging his travel to and from Watford games via the sustainability section of the official club app.

The initiative comes as the club looks to reduce its carbon emissions, with supporter travel the largest producer.

“I saw it was communicated by the club, and I had a look at it, and it was easy to do,” said Gary.

“I have my route set up as I do the same one each time, and I can log it very quickly onto the app.

“I think it’s a good thing and we should be trying to understand it and make improvements on sustainability and our footprint.”

Gary has been supporting Watford since the 1970s and makes the journey to The Vic from Milton Keynes.

He added: “I would recommend doing it. It takes no time whatsoever and it’s easy.

“I got a prize, and I wasn’t expecting that. It only takes 30 seconds after you’ve set it up and got your saved routes in there.

“My two nieces are doing it now and they keep track of the leaderboard. It was a nice surprise to get a prize from the football club.”

Gary started watching Watford when he was about six or seven and said his favourite current player is Mattie Pollock.

“My stepdad was a member of the fan club or whatever it was, and then me and my brother got to a certain age, and he started to take us,” he said.

“Those were the days when there was a dog track; I remember the white wall around and we sat on the sand around the track and watched.”

The competition is now open again for January with a prize of two hospitality tickets to a Watford FC game.

Fans using the app can earn up to four tickets for the draw each month by collecting points in a variety of ways.

These include logging your matchday travel as Gary did, answering weekly quiz questions, committing to a sustainable pledge or reading an article and answering a question at the end.

To access the free-to-use platform, simply click HERE or type logmy.travel/watfordfc into your internet browser search bar.

Alternatively, you can tap on ‘More’ within the official Watford FC app and then ‘Sustainability’.

You can download the app on iOS and Android.
