Watford FC Women will be looking to make it back-to-back league wins at home as they welcome league leaders Hashtag United to Grosvenor Vale.

The 5-2 victory over Exeter City last Sunday marked the side's first win in four matches in the National League South, with Renée Hector's side hoping to bring forward the momentum into a tough test against the Tags.

There will also be some extra motivation for the Golden Girls, with the side looking for some revenge having lost 3-1 to Sunday's opponents on the opening day of the season.

How The Land Lies

Watford's victory last weekend lifted the side to seventh in the table, twelve points off Hashtag United albeit with two games in hand.

It appears that this weekend's visitors are the team to beat so far in the third tier, earning 26 points from their opening eleven matches, including just one loss.

The club are looking to go one better than last season to earn promotion, with the Tags ending the 2023/24 campaign in second place, eight points off Portsmouth.

Pre-Match Chat

Golden Girls Head Coach Renée Hector spoke to watfordfc.com before the clash, challenging her side to keep up the momentum as they go up against a strong opponent.

“Every game’s a big game at this point - we need to try and get maximum points.

“We’ve had a couple of positive performances, which absolutely helps. We won on penalties and then we went back to the league and got a good result against a good side which had been scoring lots of goals.

“That is only going to help the confidence in the group. We’ll try and build up even more to move on to Hashtag.

“On the opening day we felt really good about where we were at half-time. We didn’t play badly in the second half but there are going to be things that we are going to look at to try and nullify their threats, because they do have some, so we need to be ready for that.

“They are super athletic, super powerful. They’ve got some good individuals, some good players that can hurt you. They run a lot, so we need to be able to match that. It’ll be a physical battle, very direct, which is always difficult to come up against.

“We need to be ready for it.”
