Harvey Elliott looks likely to miss Liverpool’s huge clashes against Chelsea and Arsenal next month after suffering a bad foot injury during the international break.

The attacking midfielder has made just one appearance under Arne Slot so far this season, playing the last seven minutes of the 2-0 win over Brentford.

But he was set for more game time under the new manager with Liverpool set to play seven matches in the next three weeks which includes the start of their Champions League campaign.

However the Reds have been dealt a big blow after it was confirmed on Wednesday that Elliott had suffered a fractured foot while training with the England U21s last week.

It is expected that the injury will rule the 21-year-old out until late October, with some reports suggesting the earliest he could return will be after the next international break.

That would see him miss Premier League clashes against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Wolves and Crystal Palace, as well as their Carabao Cup third round match against West Ham.

He’ll also be sidelined for Liverpool’s first two Champions League fixtures against Italian sides AC Milan and Bologna.

But in the worse case scenario that Elliott doesn’t return until November, he’ll also miss the big game against Chelsea at Anfield on October 20, a trip to RB Leipzig and an away clash at Arsenal.

His absence means summer signing Federico Chiesa will need to hit the ground running with Slot expected to rotate his side in order to manage the congested fixture list

Thankfully for Slot, Elliott is the only injury absentee he has to worry about, with the rest of his squad set to fit and available for this Saturday’s game against Forest.

Under Jurgen Klopp’s successor, Liverpool have won their first three games without conceding a goal and are only behind leaders Manchester City in the table on goals scored.
