Sloppy defensive play leads to FC Dallas' exit from the Champions League 2018 is another year of CONCACAF Champions League disappointment for FC Dallas as they tied Tauro FC 3-2 on Wednesday night to crash out on aggregate goals 3-3. Tauro advances due to the two away goals. Dallas got goals from Mauro Diaz and Maxi Urruti in the draw with Cristian Colman picking up a goal in stoppage time. Fifteen minutes into the match Tauro struck first on a goal from Edwin Aguilar. The ball was deflected off Carlos Gruezo to help keep Jesús González onside. The Panamanian midfielder scooped up the ball inside the penalty box and found an open Aguilar who beat Jesse Gonzalez for the game's first goal. Dallas responded well shortly after the Tauro goal with a good chance from Diaz in the 22nd minute. Reggie Cannon found Michael Barrios free on the right side of the penalty box. The Colombian winger then one-timed a pass back to the center of the box to Diaz but the Argentine's shot went over the bar. Dallas tied the match up in the 32nd minute on a goal from Urruti. The ball was played in and got deflected off a Tauro defender up into the air where Urruti corralled it and then fired into the top portion of the goal. Tauro climbed back into the lead in the 44th minute on a counter attack that began at midfield. Aguilar received the ball at midfield and made a turn on Reto Ziegler before sending a through ball to an open Jesus Gonzalez. The Tauro midfielder beat his defender and was then able to get a clean shot on goal to give the visitors the lead. Shortly after halftime FC Dallas tied it up on a Diaz penalty kick. Dallas picked up the penalty in the 49th minute as Santiago Mosquera was brought down by a Tauro defender. FC Dallas struggled to get anything good forward in the final 30 minutes of the match until Colman headed home a header off a pass from Mosquera. Tauro will advance to the quarterfinals where they will face Mexican side Club America. FC Dallas will return to action this Saturday as they open their regular season campaign when they host Real Salt Lake.
