Report: Tata Martino to step down as Inter Miami head coach

Inter Miami suffered an early MLS Cup Playoff exit in 2024 and will now reportedly begin a search for a new head coach.
Tata Martino has left his role as head coach due to personal reasons, ESPN reported Tuesday. Martino had one year remaining on his contact with the Herons and led Inter Miami to a Supporters’ Shield this season.
The Argentine will address the media on Friday alongside Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas and president of football operations Raúl Sanllehi.
Martino joined the Herons in June 2023 and led the Herons to a Leagues Cup title last year. He won 35 of his 67 matches in charge, working with international stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, among others.
However, Inter Miami’s dominant regular season in 2024 did not lead to a deep playoff run as the Herons were eliminated by Martino’s former club, Atlanta United, in a Best-of-3 series. They also were eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the revamped CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Inter Miami will have a busy 2025 on its schedule with the MLS regular season, Leagues Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup all on the horizon.
