Wolves are in talks with Lens over a move for Kevin Danso, talkSPORT understands.

The Austrian defender is emerging a transfer target for new Wolves boss Vito Pereira.

Pereira has made signing a new centre-back his top priority since taking charge at Molineux.

Danso could be available on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy if Wolves avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The defender started his career in England with Reading and MK Dons at academy level where he played as a striker.

He joined Augsburg in 2014 and made 44 appearances for the club, while also spending a season on loan with Southampton in 2019/20.

Reflecting on the disappointing loan spell in a 2022 interview with The Athletic, Danso said: “The biggest problem was not playing enough games as a centre-half because I wasn't able to show what I could do."

He added: "I wanted it to work out, but when you play out of position you maybe need the extra focus that I didn't have.”

“I should have concentrated more and read the game more.

"I tried to do that, and when it started well, I took a bit of a backseat and became complacent. I needed to invest a little bit more to ensure it went in the direction I wanted it to."

Now with Lens, the 26-year-old has made 126 appearances for the French side.

Danso has previously been recommended to Manchester United with Rio Ferdinand saying: “The boy at Lens, there’s one there, he’s good.”

Wolves are desperate for quality reinforcements as they prepare to battle to avoid relegation in 2025.

Pereira’s side currently sit 17th in the table with just four wins to their name so far.

However they have shown improvements under Pereira.

In the last week they have won twice and drawn to fire themselves up away from real peril.

Leicester City and Manchester United were well beaten before a Jorgen Strand Larsen goal got them a vital point against Tottenham.

Next up is a tough clash at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday, January 6.
