Angola take on "transitioning" Ghana in AFCON qualifying showdown

Angola will aim to keep up their almost-perfect record in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when they welcome Ghana to Estadio 11 de Novembro on Friday evening.

Kick-off is at 21:00 CAT (SA, GMT+2)

Ghana in the meanwhile, are making the trip to Luanda in search of a victory to preserve their already faint chances of making it to the main draw of the tournament next year.

The Black Sable Antelopes have stunned in their qualifying campaign, breezing past tough opposition such as the Black Stars and Sudan in their two opening fixtures.

The team also made light work of Niger in their matches last month. Pedro Goncalves' players have won eight matches across all competitions and are undefeated in their last 12 outings.

Angola have also been impressive defensively, coming away with a clean sheet on seven different occasions.

Ghana have made it through to each of the most recent 10 AFCON tournaments and were backed heavily to secure a spot in the group stages of next year's showpiece to be hosted in Morocco.

Unfortunately for the Black Stars, their chances of qualification are hanging in the balance with them needing to win their two remaining qualifying matches to possibly leapfrog Sudan into second place of Group F.

"Ghana is a country of football, and I grew up watching the Black Stars with big names," says Angola head coach Goncalves according to Modern Ghana.

"They have wonderful players worldwide, including Europe and Portugal. But unfortunately, they're not in the best moment now."

"I appreciate the work Otto Addo is doing for Ghana, even though it's a challenging time. It's just an unfortunate situation, but this is football," he concluded.
