Ivory Coast international Maxwel Cornet has left English Premier League side Southampton FC for Italian Serie A club Genoa CFC.
The wing-back-come-winger has joined Il Vecchio Balordo (The Old Fool) on loan from Premier League outfit West Ham United for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Cornet spent the first round of the current season on loan at Southampton where he played just two Premier League matches and he has now moved to The Old Fool.
“Maxwel Cornet is a new Genoa player. The striker born in Bregbo on 27/09/1996 arrives on loan from West Ham, with whom he won the UEFA Conference League in 2023,” a statement read.
“He has worn the jerseys of Metz, Burnley, Southampton and Olympique Lyon, a team with which he boasts 252 appearances, 51 goals and 29 assists.
“With the Ivory Coast national team he has 31 games and 6 goals, with a long militancy in the French youth national teams and dozens of appearances in continental club competitions.”
The last time Cornet played for Ivory Coast was in 2023 and he will be hoping to impress the Elephants’ head coach Emerse Fae during his time with Genoa.
