Mabasa's title dream: Can Pirates make it reality?

Tshegofatso Mabasa believes that capturing the Betway Premiership title would be a monumental achievement for Orlando Pirates, cementing their place in the club’s history.

Orlando Pirates are currently in second place with 40 points, trailing leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 18 points, although Sundowns have played four more matches.

Pirates can reduce the gap to 15 points with a win over Sundowns on Sunday and to just three points if they win their four rescheduled games.

Speaking to the media at the team's base at Rand Stadium, Mabasa opened up on what it would mean for the team to be the champions again as per IOL.

"It would mean a lot honestly," Mabasa said.

"Already, we have created history for this wonderful club, but that would remain in the history books.

"History can't be rewritten, so we must leave a legacy and leave our marks as players [who have played for the club] as well."

The Buccaneers are making history by promoting young players to the senior team, but Mabasa acknowledges that despite their depth, other teams also have quality players that can challenge them.

"There's a lot of quality within the teams in the country. You find Yanela Mbuthuma at Richards Bay and Shaun Mogaila at Sekhukhune [United]," he said.

"There are a lot of players that are quality at different clubs, but the mentality is a different thing especially in this league."
