Mali aim for winning momentum in CAR tie

Mali will hope to keep up with the pace set by the likes of Madagascar and Ghana at the top of Group I in their respective 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying bid when they take on Central African Republic at Stade El Arbi Zaouli on Monday evening. Kick-off is at 6:00pm CAT.

The Eagles were at their dominant best in their latest qualifier as they recorded a 3-0 win against Comoros at Stade Municipal de Berkane on Thursday night.

Goals by Kamory Doumbia (2) and Nene Dorgeles saw Mali move onto eight points after five matches played. Mali trailed log leaders Madagascar by two points following the final whistle and will hope to move up the table on Monday.

With their match against CAR set to take place in Morocco, Mali took to their social media handles in lauding their team's performance against Comoros.

"Strong from this nice away victory, the Eagles now have eight points and return to two points behind leaders Madagascar (10 points) ahead of the duel between Ghana (nine points) and Chad (0 points)," Mali posted.

"On account of the 6th day, Mali will face the Central African Republic on Monday, 24 March at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca."

CAR suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat against Madagascar in their latest Group I assignment, as goals by Ryan Raveloson (2), Arnaud Randrianantenaina and Lalaina downed Les Fauves at Stade Larbi Zaouli on Wednesday, 19 March.

With four points to their name after five games played, CAR took to their socials to motivate their players ahead of their clash on Monday night.

"Next Monday against Mali will be the opportunity to show your character, your determination and your pride. Play with your heart, give everything on the pitch and keep faith in your abilities. The talent is there, you just have to work on it and give it your all," CAR posted.
