The Ghanaian Football Association (GFA) has announced that Otto Addo has been visiting the Black Stars players based in Europe.
The 49-year-old tactician’s future as the Black Stars’ head coach has been uncertain since the team failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON finals last month.
Last month, the GFA held a technical review meeting with Addo, and they indicated that they would hold further stakeholder engagement to decide the retired attacking midfielder’s future.
The West African country’s football governing body has now issued the following statements;
“Black Stars has visited injured Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku as he continues his rehabilitation to full fitness, as well as fit-again Jordan Ayew. The gaffer spent some quality time with the crocked and fit-again national stars at the East Midlands,” a statement read.
“Fatawu Issahaku is undergoing rehabilitation after being sidelined for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury. The winger will miss Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March next year. Jordan Ayew is back to the Leicester team after recuperating from an injury he picked up during Ghana's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola on November 16, 2024.”
The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach also visited Rennes defender Alidu Seidu in France before his successful knee surgery.
“Addo shared words of encouragement with the Stade Rennes’ right-back before he went under the knife following a cruciate ligament setback in his left knee during a French Lique 1 match against LOSC last month. The operation went well for the Ghana international, with the player set to begin rehabilitation,” another statement read.
“The visit by the Black Stars coach is to offer solidarity and support to the defender who has been sidelined until next year. He will miss several key games, including Ghana's 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March against Chad and Madagascar. Before the injury, the Ghanaian had been Stade Rennes’ best player, winning the September Player of the Month Award.”
