Tau helps Al Ahly get off to a flyer in the Champions League

South African forward Percy Tau underlined his importance for Al Ahly by helping them get off to a flying start in defence of their CAF Champions League title.

Tau scored a brace which, added to a strike from Ramy Rabia, helped Ahly win 3-0 away against Kenya's Gor Mahia in the first leg of their qualifying tie this past weekend.

Tau, who was linked with a move away from Al Ahly this summer, was the standout player in the match and received widespread praise from fans for his brilliant display.

Former Al Ahly player Sayed Moawad reflected on Tau’s performance: “Percy is one of the best players on the continent. We all know his importance to the team, and his amazing start is a very positive sign. He struggled for form last season, but it seems he is back.”

Al Ahly fans were disappointed that the club failed to sign a winger in the offseason to boost their attacking power, but Tau’s stellar start to the season has eased some of their frustration.

The Reds will host Gor Mahia next week in Cairo, hoping for another big performance to boost their confidence ahead of the CAF Super Cup match against their arch-rivals Zamalek, which be held on 27 September in Saudi Arabia.
