Zamalek star apologizes after prison stint

Egypt and Zamalek star Ahmed Fetouh has released a statement asking for forgiveness after being released from prison on bail.

The 26-year-old caused a car accident on the Cairo-Alexandria road that led to the death of a police officer last month and the examination proved that Fotouh was under the influence of drugs.

Therefore, the left-back-come-winger was imprisoned and was recently released on bail, with his trial adjourned until 22 October.

Fetouh has now issued the following statement after resuming training with Zamalek.

"I offer my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Words cannot describe how I feel, and no words can bring comfort to the grieving family,” a statement read.

"I hope the family will allow me to offer my condolences in person. What happened will stay with me in my heart and mind for the rest of my life.

"I didn't attend training to hurt anyone's feelings. I have a contract with Zamalek that I must respect, especially since I couldn't train for the past 40 days.

"I swear before God that I will take responsibility for the deceased's daughters for the rest of my life and will do everything I can to earn their forgiveness."

He has 28 caps for Egypt having also helped Zamalek win two Egyptian Premier League titles and the CAF Confederation Cup among other trophies.
