Former Adana Demirspor vice-president Metin Korkmaz has claimed Arsenal are interested in signing Deniz Dönmezer.
The 16-year-old goalkeeper has made the breakthrough into Adana Demirspor's first team squad this season, which has brought him to the attention of other clubs, including Arsenal.
Remarkably, despite his young age, Dönmezer has played in 11 Super Lig matches so far this season.
Milliyet have covered comments Korkmaz has made to Radyospor in which he said Arsenal have come in with an offer for the youngster, but will face competition from Super Lig sides.
Arsenal have reportedly offered €3m for Dönmezer and if successful they’d send him back on loan to his current club for the rest of this season and all of the next campaign.
"All the big clubs in the Super Lig are interested in his transfer. We talked to Galatasaray about Deniz. They are keen on this transfer, they have a priority in the transfer, after which they can make a bid for Deniz and Maestro. Arsenal have sent an official offer. They offered €3m. According to this offer, they will pay the money, but Deniz will play with us on loan for a year and a half. Then he will join Arsenal," said Korkmaz.
However, the former Adana Demirspor official has told Radyospor, the Super Lig side have rejected the Gunner's offer, along a bid from Istanbul giants Fenerbahce.
"Fenerbahce, on the other hand, offered €3m for Maestro and Deniz. They also said, ‘Let Deniz play on loan for one and a half years and then come to us’. Unfortunately, we had to reject the offer of both clubs. We will never give Deniz for the proposed figures," said the ex-vice-president.
There is no indication if Arsenal plan to return with an improved offer for the player.
Dönmezer came thorough the Adana Demirspor youth system and this season he's really rose to fame. The young keeper made his senior debut in the first game of the season and has started the last seven Super Lig games.
He's contracted to the club until June 2026 and has represented Turkey U16s.
