Defenders lead the way again in Swansea win

Burnley kept another clean sheet last Saturday against Swansea, beating them 1-0 with a stoppage time penalty and again it was our central defenders who showed up as our best players.

CJ Egan-Riley had won both the man of the match and player ratings in the previous two games at Millwall and West Brom but this time it was his partner Maxime Estève who won the day, taking both ahead of Egan-Riley.

Estève won the man of the match with 52% of the vote while Egan-Riley came second with a 25% share. Jeremy Sarmiento, who came back into the team at West Brom, had another good game and finished third with 9% while Jaidon Anthony took fourth place with 5% of the vote.

It was close between the two defenders in the player ratings but Estève was the winner again with a rating of 7.91 out of ten, just beating Egan-Riley's 7.82. Sarmiento was again third with 6.73 while Connor Roberts took fourth place with a rating of 6.58 out of ten.

It's brought another ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year for Estève with Egan-Riley winning six points alongside four points for Sarmiento and one point each for Anthony and Roberts.

That's taken Estève's lead at the top to forty points again ahead of Egan-Riley while Sarmiento has now moved into fourth place having gone past both Josh Laurent and James Trafford.

It's the international break now so the next vote won't come until a week tomorrow following our game against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
